PHOTOGRAPHIC TRUTH

Photographs are meaningful to people because they hold a sense of identity, truth, and memory. People are told not to believe everything they hear, but to believe it when they see it. Because of this notion, people are trained to believe all that they see even though a photograph only reveals what is there in its set frame. A photo also can be manipulated in any way and people know it but choose to ignore this idea because we are so often at ease with the truth and photographs help us reveal that. This is because pictures are so detailed, and accurately capture a moment in time that reveals an assumed truth that people hold them accountable for.
In class, we went over photographs that were manipulated and the ones that revealed its truth. These were incredible to look at because often photos like these get overlooked and some are just too good not to be true. Photo editing and manipulating is something that we are aware of but we choose to disregard it all too often because we want to believe what is right in front of our eyes. But analyzing these photos made me realize that we shouldn't just trust everything we see and it makes me question what is true and what is not. Anyone can alter a photo and this idea is unsettling because of how determined people are to believe it and negativity stays more powerful in people's minds than positivity. People will always remember the bad and will almost always have something to say about it.
